Education at the Greylock Glen Outdoor Center

Environmental Education Programming

As the Environmental Education Provider at the Greylock Glen Outdoor Center, Mass Audubon will deliver a broad range of environmental education programming appealing to different age groups and people of diverse backgrounds, and will implement educational and interpretive programs highlighting the natural and cultural features found at Greylock Glen and the broader Mount Greylock landscape.

Outdoor Center Exhibit Hall

Visitors to the Greylock Glen Outdoor Center (scheduled to open in autumn of 2024) are invited to explore the value of land conservation, the importance of forests in climate change resilience and adaptation, and mass timber – engineered wood products used as structural components in large scale construction – as exemplified in the Outdoor Center’s construction. This multi-faceted exhibit is funded by the Woodlands Partnership of Northwest Massachusetts.

About the Outdoor Center - Educational Signage

When you visit the Greylock Glen Outdoor Center, you’ll notice its thoughtful connection to the surrounding landscape and the careful incorporation of natural elements such as wood and stone. The Outdoor Center is designed as a net zero building, meaning it is highly energy efficient and incorporates a wide range of features to produce as much energy as it uses over the course of a year. Energy conservation is achieved through increased insulation in the roof, walls, and foundation and the use of efficient electric heating and cooling systems, among other approaches. Signage throughout the building reveals these and other strategies integral to the building’s design, and links you to more information through QR codes. Explore the Outdoor Center’s design elements virtually through an online exhibit.
