The Outdoor Center has an all-electric kitchen to prepare the best quality food with minimal energy and no fossil fuels. The energy required for food preparation is large in our homes, offices, and restaurants. While refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, small utensils, and ovens are typically electric, a large percentage of homes use gas for ranges and cooktops. Many home chefs prefer gas, citing the controllability of temperature and rapid response. However, new electric induction ranges offer comparable or better temperature control than gas stoves and reduced cooking times. In addition, recent studies have shown that gas stoves emit the carcinogen benzene, which can accumulate in homes and is difficult to flush out with standard range hoods.
