Over 90% of Americans on average spend over 20 hours a day indoors. Thus, the indoor environment is very important to our health and well-being. Water intrusion through the roof, walls, and ground, buildings with toxic building materials, and buildings without adequate fresh air can encourage mold and mildew growth or toxicity that is unhealthy. Healthy buildings are designed to shed water from the outside of roofs, walls, and foundations, prevent moisture build up in the building envelope, provide adequate healthy air for occupants, and build with healthy materials. Healthy buildings incorporate connection to view, nature, gardens, wildlife, and mountains, and the daily changes of sunlight, weather, and wind. The Outdoor Center was designed as a healthy building connected to its surrounding environment.
