Approximately one mile from downtown Adams and nestled some 2,200 feet below the Mount Greylock summit is Greylock Glen. Encompassing 1,063 acres of woodlands, open fields, wetlands, mountains streams, ponds and even a waterfall, the Glen includes trails used by hikers, naturalists, skiers, snowshoers, mountain bikers, and snowmobiles. The site itself is a mixture of rolling open fields and wooded hillside, interspersed with several ponds.
Human influence from the preceding decades and centuries can be seen throughout the landscape. The site was cut for timber in the 1800s and extensively farmed until the 1960s. The ponds were created as water features for an 18-hole golf course built in the early 1970s.
